Can I control my SPAN Panel remotely?
Yes, the SPAN Panel can be controlled remotely using the SPAN Home App, allowing you to adjust circuit settings even when you’re away from home. SPAN can also be utilized using smart tools like Alexa without having to use the SPAN Home App.
How does the SPAN Panel help extend battery life during power outages?
During a power outage, the SPAN Panel acts as a smart load management tool by automatically turning off all non-essential electrical loads pre-designated by the homeowner, preventing unnecessary battery drain. As the outage continues and the battery charge drops to 50%, SPAN automatically shuts down “nice-to-have” loads, reducing power consumption even more. Additionally, SPAN provides real-time tracking of remaining battery runtime (in hours and minutes), giving the homeowner critical data to make informed decisions about further load shedding. This helps extend battery life and ensures essential loads remain powered until grid power is restored.
Does a SPAN panel work during an outage without a battery-backup system?
No, the SPAN Panel alone cannot provide power during an outage. While it’s a powerful energy management system that optimizes the use of stored energy, it requires a compatible battery backup system to supply power during outages. Without a battery, the SPAN Panel lacks access to any energy source when the grid is down. Paired with a battery, it enables efficient energy management and ensures a reliable power supply during grid outages.
What if I need more than 32 controllable circuits?
If your Electrical Panel requires more than 32 controllable breakers, consider the following options:
Use tandem breakers: Tandem breakers allow you to fit two loads on one circuit. While this increases circuit capacity without adding a subpanel, the SPAN Panel will read both loads as a single breaker, meaning you’ll control both loads together and see a combined energy usage, without individual monitoring. This allows you to fit more loads without relocating circuit breakers to an outside panel.
Add a subpanel: You can connect either a regular subpanel or another SPAN Panel to expand your circuit capacity. If you add a regular subpanel, all circuits in that subpanel will appear as one breaker in the SPAN Home app, meaning you won’t have individual control or monitoring for each circuit. However, using another SPAN Panel as the subpanel allows you to monitor and control each circuit independently through the SPAN Home app, just like the main panel.
Choose SPAN 48 now: The SPAN 48 Panel is available now, offering 16 additional controllable breakers, giving you more flexibility without the need for subpanels or tandem breakers.
What's the difference between SPAN Panel 32 and 48 circuits?
